The food pyramid was once the gold standard for nutrition in the US; but as research and observation over time taught us, the pyramid did not serve its purpose. Enter MyPlate in 2011 to reshape food requirements across the nation. Over a decade later, it seems that MyPlate – while closer to correct than the food pyramid – may have still missed the mark.
In this episode, Dr. Dan and Angela dig in to the dietary recommendations from the USDA’s MyPlate guidelines. They provide a cautious review, arguing MyPlate makes positive changes from the outdated food pyramid but still promotes questionable advice on grains, dairy, fats, and beverages. As usual, they are dishing out a big helping of knowledge – pull up a chair!
