Napoleon Hill himself referred to this principle as the starting point of all achievement. That places a significant emphasis its importance as well as a concept that’s referred to in some Eastern philosophies as the “beginning with the end in mind”.

One of the things that comes through understanding and embracing this Principle is that specificity is required. When you talk about someone who specific about what they want and why in a particular thing or field, you’re talking about someone who can develop a complete understanding and mastery of the most basic concepts—again, a point that both Dr. Hill and my personal teacher also emphasizes—repetition is the mother of skill. You can be a jack of all trades and a master of none. In this day and age, specificity is really one of the things that separates those that achieve outstanding results from those that just participate in doing whatever it is we’re talking about.
